SORBONNE NOUVELLE UNIVERSITY GRADUATE LINGUISTICS SYMPOSIUM
SNUGLS 2013

INSTITUT DU MONDE ANGLOPHONE, PARIS 3
April 13th, 2013

CALL FOR PAPERS

The SeSyLiA (Semantics and Syntax - Language In Action) group, which is part of PRISMES (EA 4398) and in conjunction with the ED 514, is pleased to host the fourth edition of SNUGLS. The overall goal of the conference is to bring junior researchers together and give them an opportunity to practice their presentation skills in English. The conference will be held in Paris, 5 rue de l’Ecole de Médecine, on April 13th, 2013. This year, we are delighted to welcome Doctor Martine Sekali from Paris X Nanterre as our keynote speaker.

Graduate students (i.e. second year Master and Ph-D students) as well as first-year post-docs are encouraged to apply. The conference language is English and presentations will be allotted a 30-minute slot (20 minutes for presenting and another 10 minutes for discussion).
Papers from all fields of linguistics dealing with the English language are welcome (language acquisition; language teaching; conversation analysis; discourse analysis; sentence structure, etc.) and different perspectives can be adopted (methods of data collection; multimodality, etc.). Participants should limit their talk to one main subject focusing on a specific issue related to their research topic. However, contributions which will manage to shed light on the questions of ‘affect’, ‘stance’ and ‘intersubjectivity’ or any other related subjects (dialogicity, expression of emotions, modality, etc.) will be greatly appreciated.

In order to help participants become more competent communicators, two discussion sessions will be organized during the day to provide friendly feedback.

Submission guidelines:
Two copies of a 400-word abstract (references excluded) with a title and 5 keywords should be submitted to the conference organizers by e-mail by February 1st, 2013. One copy should be made ready for anonymous refereeing while the other should include the name(s) and institutional affiliation(s) and contact information of the author(s).

Abstracts will be selected by a scientific committee composed of academic researchers, some of them being members of the SeSyLiA team at Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris 3.

Date of notification of acceptance/rejection: March 11th, 2013.

Organization Committee: Pauline Beaupoil, Laurent David, Vincent Hugou, Justine Paris, Leslie Tahan and Alessandra Jacqueline Vieira.
