Nice University is seeking applications for a 
full professorship in Cognitive Science, relating 
to Language. In France, work time is divided into 
50% teaching (at the two Departments mentioned), 
and 50% research (at the laboratory). Teaching 
duty is 192 hours a year (which comes down to 
around 6h a week during two 12 week semesters) 
and includes classes both at the undergraduate 
and postgraduate levels. Both teaching and 
research are involved in the supervision of graduate work, namely of Ph.Ds.
Below is the official job description that will 
be available on Galaxie, in French. Sufficient 
language skills in French are required since the 
successful candidate will have to teach in 
French. Also consider that administration and the 
job interview will be in French.

Enseignement
Le candidat recruté prendra en charge le parcours 
"Langage et Sciences Cognitives" créé 
nouvellement à la rentrée 2012-13.  Il s'agit 
d'un cursus pluridisciplinaire qui repose sur des 
cours existants dans diverses disciplines 
constitutives des Sciences Cognitives : 
psychologie, linguistique, anthropologie, 
informatique, neurobiologie, info-com. Il s'agira 
de coordonner ces cours et Départements ainsi que 
d'enrichir et développer l’offre de formation. Le 
parcours se concentrant sur une fonction 
cognitive particulière, le langage, le candidat 
retenu aura donc de préférence des compétences 
dans le domaine du langage, mais un profil plus 
général au cœur des Sciences Cognitives en tant 
que telles est nécessaire. L'enseignement propre 
du candidat recruté constituera l'ossature de la 
filière : d'une part, il dispensera les cours 
transversaux, c’est-à-dire les seuls qui ne sont 
pas spécifiques à une discipline individuelle et 
qui consistent en la présentation des grandes 
fonctions cognitives, des théories du système 
cognitif, de l'histoire des études cognitives. 
D'autre part il présentera également ses propres 
travaux en Master et dans des séminaires de recherche.
Au sein du Département de Psychologie, 
l’enseignant-chercheur recruté effectuera une 
partie importante de son service en Licence de 
Psychologie ; ces enseignements porteront sur la 
neurobiologie et aborderont de façon globale le 
système nerveux central avec ses différentes 
composantes et son fonctionnement ainsi que les 
notions de base sur les aspects anatomo-fonctionnels du cerveau.

Recherche
Le cœur des recherches du candidat recruté seront 
les Sciences Cognitives : s'il peut avoir un 
ancrage particulier dans une discipline 
individuelle, les horizons et activités 
scientifiques seront inter- et 
pluridisciplinaires, et les travaux axés sur la 
compréhension du système cognitif en tant que 
tel. Le candidat sera familier des grandes 
théories du système cognitif et aura étudié plusieurs fonctions cognitives.
La nouvelle Maison des Sciences de l’Homme à Nice 
promeut la confrontation de la cognition interne 
(non-orientée vers d'autres individus, i.e. 
systèmes perceptifs, langage) et de la cognition 
externe (cognition sociale: anthropologie, 
sociologie cognitive, économie). Enfin, ces 
recherches sont plutôt basées sur des individus à 
développement normal, c’est-à-dire ici non pathologique.
