an answer are basic logical
activities just as much as drawing a conclusion
from what
we already know. This is one instance of a 'Dynamic Turn'
in
modern philosophical logic toward analyzing a broader
repertoire of cognitive
actions. We will discuss a range
of communicative phenomena, from basic
speech acts
to strategic behaviour in games. The technical tool for
this
analysis is a 'dynamified' version of epistemic logic
that can model
interaction. This system brings together
ideas from philosophy, logic, and
computer science.

We point out some philosophical repercussions of this
turn,
including paradoxes of knowledge - but also its practical
promise
for understanding human cognition, e.g., in
designing new forms of rational
behaviour.

Literature

1996, "Exploring Logical Dynamics", CSLI

the logical analysis of games,
as seen from the perspective of
dynamic-epistemic logics.
In particular, we consider (a) structural
information in games,
(b) reasoning about strategic equilibrium, and (c)
revision
of expectations about the future. A proper account of
these
phenomena seems to require a merge between update logics,
systems of
belief revision, and perhaps even temporal logic.

Literature

1999
