face="Lucida Grande" size=3>Longtemps réservée à l'analyse littéraire, puis à
l'analyse discursive, la notion de genre textuel est maintenant très utilisée
par la linguistique de corpus. Dans ce cadre, le genre est destiné à
catégoriser les textes pour essayer d'organiser des volumes de données très
importants et/ou expliquer leur variation. Ainsi, en prenant en compte des
régularités à la fois extra-linguistiques et linguistiques, le genre
permettrait d'instaurer un palier d'analyse entre le discours individuel et le
système de la langue.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV style="MARGIN: 0px"><FONT style="FONT: 12px Lucida Grande"
face="Lucida Grande" size=3><SPAN class=Apple-converted-space> </SPAN>En
réalité, loin d'être une solution définitive pour expliquer la variation, la
notion de genre textuel pose de nombreuses questions et la diversité des
communautés qui l’utilisent renforce la difficulté à la cerner. Deux autres
notions lui sont régulièrement associées : celle de domaine et celle
d'activité. La première permettrait d'organiser la connaissance et
constituerait un premier niveau de découpage linguistique et
extra-linguistique relativement stable; la seconde constituerait un point de
vue "dynamique" et concernerait des situations où le consensus langagier se
créerait en lien avec une visée applicative (un projet) partagée. En fait, la
réalité des fonctionnements semble beaucoup plus nuancée. La notion de domaine
n'est pas aussi stable qu'on pourrait le penser et une activité même
partagée ne crée pas toujours des régularités linguistiques.<SPAN

notion de genre constitue donc pour la linguistique de corpus une
problématique majeure. D'une part, la mise à disposition de corpus
informatisés et de méthodes de TAL pour les interroger permet de tester très
rapidement des hypothèses, d'autre part, la demande d'analyse de données
textuelles, en particulier de la part des entreprises, n'a jamais été aussi
pressante. Ces deux éléments encouragent le développement d'un grand nombre de
travaux qui utilisent la notion de genre textuel.</FONT></DIV>

journées que nous proposons visent à essayer de comprendre les enjeux et les
problématiques qui sous-tendent et expliquent la multiplicité et la diversité
de ces travaux. Elles seront balisées par la volonté de situer la notion de
genre par rapport aux notions de domaine et/ou d’activité.</FONT></DIV>

a long time, the notion of «textual genre» has been reserved to literary
analysis. It is now very often used within corpus linguistics. In this
framework, genre is intended to categorize texts for organizing ammount of
data and/or expliciting their variation. Taking into account both linguistics
and extra-linguistics regularities, genre could allow to establish a
stage of analysis between the individual discourse and the system of
language.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV style="MARGIN: 0px"><FONT style="FONT: 12px Lucida Grande"
face="Lucida Grande" size=3><SPAN class=Apple-converted-space> </SPAN>In
fact, the notion of textual genre is not really a definitive solution for
explaining the variation. On the contrary, it rises issues and the
diversity of the disciplinaries who use it contributes towards the difficulty
of its definition. Two other notions are often associated with it : the one of
field and the one of activity. The first one could allow to organize knowledge
and could constitute a first step for organizing linguistic and
extra-linguistic data in a relatively stable manner. The second one could
constitute a</FONT></DIV>

concern situations in which a kind of linguistic consensus can be
created involving an applicative shared aim (a project). <SPAN

fact, the reality of linguistic facts seems to be much more balanced. The
notion of fields is not as stable as it is often thought and even when it is
shared, an activity does not always entail linguistic regularities.<SPAN

this notion of genre constitutes a main issue for corpus linguistics. On the
one hand, the possibility to get electronics corpora and NLP tools allows to
evaluate hypothesis very rapidly. On the other hand, firms are more and more
insistent in their requests concerning textual data analysis. These two
elements encourage the increasing growth of studies using the notion of
textual genre.</FONT></DIV>
