The Conference on Complex Predicates in Iranian Languages is intended<br>
to cover analyses of complex predicates in languages belonging to the<br>
Iranian language family, in a range of different frameworks<br>
(theoretical, computational, functional, typological, historical,<br>
etc.). Papers addressing any aspect of complex predicate constructions<br>
in Iranian languages are welcome.<br>

CONFERENCE TOPIC<br>
<br>
Complex predicates (also referred to as light verb constructions or<br>
multiword expressions) are generally defined as predicates that are<br>
composed of more than one grammatical element (either morphemes or<br>
words), each of which contributes part of the information ordinarily<br>
associated with a single head.<br>
<br>
The issues raised by complex predicates cut across various subfields <br>
of<br>
linguistics. Complex predicates show both phrasal and lexical<br>
properties and thus pose challenges for theories of word formation, <br>
the<br>
morphology-syntax interface, as well as lexical semantics. The<br>
interaction between predicate formation and argument structure is<br>
another important area of research. In addition, the study of complex<br>
predicates has consequences for a theory of the syntax-phonology<br>
interface.<br>
<br>
The purpose of the conference is to bring together those working on<br>
complex predicates in different Iranian languages in order to<br>
understand the similarities and differences within this language <br>
family<br>
and to discuss possible typologies, grammaticalization strategies,<br>
computational representations, problematic issues, and the merits of<br>
different approaches and analyses.<br>

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br>

Please send a one-page abstract plus one additional page for data and<br>
references. Abstracts should be sent as an attachment in PDF or MS <br>
Word<br>

affiliation, contact information and paper title in the body of the<br>
email.<br>

One single authored and/or one co-authored abstract is permitted per<br>
