Toutes les langues, que leurs usagers pratiquent dans l?interaction <br>
avec d?autres locuteurs, ont affaire au contact, le français comme les <br>
autres. Etant donné le nombre et la diversité des situations où la <br>
francophonie est en jeu, on ne peut plus guère concevoir la <br>
linguistique française autrement que comme linguistique de la <br>
francophonie, le français étant partout en contact avec une ou <br>
plusieurs langue(s). Il existe un certain nombre d?inventaires de ces <br>
situations et de typologies des contacts, mais de nouvelles évaluations <br>
permettront de faire avancer la réflexion théorique sur le contact.<br>
<br>
L?idée du colloque repose sur un double constat :<br>
<br>
1) Etudier le français impose de prendre en compte sa variation <br>
diatopique. Si l?on dispose de monographies sur différentes variétés de <br>
français, surtout extra-européennes, ces études ne sont pas encore très <br>
intégrées dans des cadres analytiques globaux sur la coexistence du <br>
français avec d?autres langues, centrale pour l?évolution des formes et <br>
des fonctions des variétés. Des perspectives macro-comparatives sont <br>
loin d?être prises en compte pour le français comme elles le sont pour <br>
les pidgins/créoles ou pour l?anglais.<br>
<br>
2) On a aujourd?hui affaire à l?émergence d?un nouveau paradigme <br>
épistémologique dans les sciences du langage, dans lequel les systèmes <br>
linguistiques sont pensés non plus comme statiques et isolés, mais <br>
comme dynamiques et ouverts. Dans une perspective écolinguistique, les <br>
langues manifestent une intrication de systèmes linguistiques et de <br>
cadres communicatifs et sociaux variés, auxquels l?uni-dimensionalité <br>
de la linguistique traditionnelle ne rend pas justice. Le congrès de <br>
Halle situe sa problématique à l?intersection de ces deux constats, <br>
avec des perspectives empiriques, macro-analytiques et <br>
écolinguistiques. Il se propose d?explorer deux axes scientifiques <br>
principaux, avec pour arrière-plan l?élargissement à d?autres langues:<br>
<br>
1) Établir un relevé des situations de contact du français au niveau <br>
mondial; en esquisser une typologie, de même qu?un inventaire des <br>
traits linguistiques et des zones de langue concernées. Ce qui suppose <br>
d?établir un bilan des ressources en corpus oraux.<br>
<br>
2) Débattre de concepts qui permettent de traiter des relations entre <br>
variation/changement et processus de contacts linguistiques; poursuivre <br>
l?évaluation des concepts et des modèles disponibles; évaluer les <br>
nouvelles théorisations, relevant par exemple de la grammaticalisation, <br>
de la typologie ou de l?idée d?hybridation, ainsi que les relations <br>
entre structurel et social.<br>

Ecologie et contact incitent à porter le regard davantage sur les <br>
langues de contact, aux niveaux structurel-typologique et <br>
socio-historique. La problématique du français en contact sera ainsi <br>
abordée dans des questionnements de linguistique générale tenant compte <br>
de situations n?impliquant pas le français.<br>
Le congrès vise à porter un nouveau regard sur la francophonie, en <br>
jetant les bases d?un tableau représentatif sur le français en contact <br>
à travers le monde, en particulier en établissant des <br>
ressemblances/différences avec le fonctionnement des autres grandes <br>
langues intercontinentales (anglophonie, hispanophonie, lusophonie).<br>

<br>
All languages, French just as much as any other, used by speakers <br>
everyday in interactions, are concerned with contact. Given the scope <br>
and diversity of situations in which the French language is used, <br>
French linguistics cannot be considered otherwise than as a linguistics <br>
of "francophonie", if nothing because of French being always in contact <br>
with one or more languages. A number of accounts of these situations <br>
and contact typologies have been produced, but new accounts will enable <br>
us to advance in terms of the theoretical considerations for studying <br>
language contact.<br>
<br>
The rationale for this conference is based on the following:<br>
<br>
1. In studying French, we are compelled to take its diatopic <br>
variation into account. Despite the fact that monographs on different <br>
French varieties do exist, especially varieties outside Europe, these <br>
works are not very well integrated into more general analytic <br>
approaches to the coexistence of French with other languages, which <br>
again is central to the development of forms and functions of <br>
varieties. A global comparative perspective, similar to what exists for <br>
pidgins, creoles or even English, is lacking for French.<br>
<br>
2. Recent epistemological developments within linguistics have meant <br>
that linguistic systems are no longer thought of as static and isolated <br>
but rather as open and dynamic. From an ecolinguistic perspective, <br>
languages exhibit a complex interweaving of linguistic systems and <br>
different communicative and social frames which the one-dimensional <br>
nature of traditional accounts do not embrace satisfactorily.<br>
<br>
This conference takes as its theme the coupling of these two statements <br>
with empirical, macro-analytical and ecolinguistic perspectives. It <br>
proposes to explore two main axes, with the option of including related <br>
work on other languages. The conference aims to:<br>
<br>
1. Establish an inventory of worldwide contact situations for <br>
French; propose a typology as well as compile an inventory of the <br>
linguistic characteristics and the language areas concerned. This <br>
requires taking stock of the oral corpora at our disposal.<br>
<br>
2. Discuss concepts that allow us to deal with the references <br>
between variation/change and linguistic contact processes; promote the <br>
evaluation of existing concepts and models; evaluate the new theories, <br>
for example, stemming from grammaticalization, typology or the idea of <br>
hybridization as well as assessing the relations between the structural <br>
and the social.<br>
<br>
Ecology and contact invite an examination of contact languages based <br>
more on a structural-typological and a socio-historic level. The <br>
problem of French in contact will thus be embedded in general <br>
linguistic questions, taking situations into account that do not <br>
include French.<br>
The conference aims to provide new insights into the French-speaking <br>
world by laying the foundations for a representative view of French at <br>
a worldwide level, mainly by establishing points of <br>
comparison/divergence with other big intercontinental languages (e.g. <br>
English, Spanish, Portuguese).<br>
