l'Homme et de la Société de l'Université de Poitiers vous convient
à leur prochain rendez-vous. Cette quatrième Journée Parole
prolonge le volet diachronique ouvert lors de la précédente édition
et privilégie cette fois l'anglais du XVIIIe siècle.</font></font></p>

</p>
<p align="JUSTIFY"><font face="Georgia, serif"><font style="font-size: 9pt;" size="2">Au
cours des XVIIIe et XIXe siècles (et jusqu'à Daniel Jones), aucun
auteur n'a eu plus d'autorité en matière de prononciation de
l'anglais que John Walker (1732-1807) et son <i>Critical Pronouncing
Dictionary. </i><span style="font-style: normal;">Depuis les premières
représentations de l'accent dans les années 1720 avec Dyche et
Bailey, suivies par l'apparition des chiffres superscrits de Kenrick
pour noter les valeurs de voyelles, les auteurs des dictionnaires de
prononciation n'ont eu de cesse au cours du siècle d'élaborer ou
d'affiner des systèmes de transcription de l'oral. Le système que
propose Walker en 1791 hérite de cette tradition et sera repris de
nombreuses fois au siècle suivant, constituant une étape décisive
avant l'apparition de l'API. C'est à la lumière de ces indications
semi-phonétiques que l</span>a journée d'étude se propose
d'explorer l'anglais ou les différents types d'anglais <span style="background: transparent;">enregistrés
dans les transcriptions de John Walker, notamment à travers trois
grands axes d'étude : le travail purement phonétique et
phonologique à partir des transcriptions de Walker, la problématique
sociolinguistique du prescriptivisme, et enfin le travail de
comparaison des différentes éditions du dictionnaire de Walker mais
aussi des ouvrages de ses contemporains, tels que Sheridan.</span></font></font></p>

recherche est encore récente dans ce domaine qui reste largement
inexploré et nous proposons à tout chercheur qui le souhaite
d'apporter, autour de l'œuvre de John Walker et de ses
contemporains orthoépistes, un éclairage sur la prononciation de
l'anglais du XVIIIe siècle. Les problématiques associées, sans
