<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype","serif";">Depuis
le milieu du 18<sup>e</sup> siècle, l’étude des langues créoles s’articule
autour d’une question simple : les langues créoles sont-elles des langues
comme les autres ? </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype","serif";">Pour
Greenfield (1830) qui a étudié le Sranan (Suriname) et Addison van Name (1870)
qui propose une étude comparative de quatre créoles à base lexicale différente
(c.-à-d. néerlandais, français, anglais, portugais/espagnol), la question ne se
pose pas : rien ne distingue fondamentalement les créoles des autres
langues du monde. Les processus de changement linguistique qui ont donné
naissance aux créoles sont les mêmes que ceux que l’on observe couramment dans
l’étude diachronique de toute langue. Pour Addison van Name, par exemple, la
perte de la morphologie flexionnelle dans les langues créoles (thème de
prédilection des <i>exceptionalistes</i>
modernes comme McWhorter ou Bakker) s’observe également dans le développement
des langues romanes à partir du latin. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype","serif";">Les
conclusions de ces deux auteurs du 19<sup>e</sup> siècle ont été largement
confirmées par des études modernes détaillées (p. ex. Chaudenson, DeGraff,
Mufwene, Muysken), bien que d’autres auteurs (p. ex. Bakker, McWhorter,
Parkvall, Plag) s’évertuent encore à prouver le contraire et cherchent toujours
ce qui distingue les créoles des autres langues du monde. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype","serif";">Dans
cet exposé, nous nous fondons sur ce qui nous parait être l’évidence, et qui du
reste a déjà été démontré par les travaux précédemment cités: les parlers dits
créoles sont avant tout <i>des langues</i>,
c’est-à-dire des expressions de « l’organe du langage » au même titre
que le gun (langue kwa), le kicongo (langue bantu), le mandarin (langue
sinitique), le français (langue romane), etc. Cependant, nous montrons que du
fait du contexte socio-historique dans lequel elles sont apparues, les langues
créoles nous offrent la possibilité de mieux comprendre le phénomène de
l’acquisition du langage. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype","serif";">En
effet, un des défis de la linguistique formelle est de comprendre comment
l’enfant qui apprend sa langue maternelle, finit par développer un système
grammatical cohérent et relativement proche de celui des autres locuteurs de sa
communauté alors même que pendant tout son apprentissage il a été confronté à
un <i>input</i> varié, incomplet, et parfois contradictoire. Dans un contexte
monolingue, il est souvent bien difficile d’isoler les différentes unités
linguistiques que l’apprenant tisse ensemble lors du développement de sa
grammaire interne. Cependant, les langues créoles, étant nées d’une situation
multilingue impliquant des langues typologiquement différentes, nous offrent
cette possibilité et nous permettent de mieux comprendre les hypothèses
d’analyse (et donc les stratégies d’apprentissage) que les apprenants développent
pendant l’acquisition.</span></p><span class="HOEnZb"><font color="#888888">
