Bilingue dès sa plus tendre enfance, Gilbert Dalgalian a consacré sa vie à l'apprentissage et l'enseignement des langues. Avec ce livre, il nous apporte une riche moisson de souvenirs, d'expériences et d'anecdotes suggestives et truculentes qu'il éclaire à chaque occasion des lumières de la psycholinguistique et de la sociolinguistique. Gilbert Dalgalian nous montre que tout enfant devenu bilingue dans une ambiance d'affectivité positive acquiert par là même la capacité d'apprendre d'autres langues avec aisance et rapidité. En outre, le sujet plurilingue vit non seulement la diversité des cultures, mais il retrouve en chacune d'elles les aspects éternels de la nature humaine. À l'heure où le monolinguisme en France est érigé pour ainsi dire en religion d'État, avec les redoutables inconvénients que cela comporte, cet ouvrage devrait non seulement être lu, mais médité. Il est l'œuvre d'un sage. L'un des mérites, et non le moindre, est de nous aider à comprendre pourquoi et comment cette immigration, considérée par certains comme une calamité, représente en réalité pour notre pays une chance historique qu'il ne devrait pas laisser échapper. <BR>
