Cette question engage notamment les relations évasives entre linguistique et études littéraires. Des propositions nouvelles sont d’autant plus nécessaires que la linguistique et les études littéraires ont beaucoup à apprendre réciproquement, pour dépasser tant la grammaire que la philosophie du langage.</span><br><span style="font-family: Georgia;">L’étude de la littérature requiert en effet une connaissance des langues que ne peuvent assurer ni la philosophie du langage, ni la tradition grammaticale qui se limite pour l’essentiel à la phrase et ne peut caractériser ni les discours, ni les genres, ni a fortiori les œuvres.</span> <br><span style="font-family: Georgia;">Or, depuis un demi-siècle, les études linguistiques ont connu une restriction théorique, entraînant une multiplication de modèles partiels. Bien que les littéraires « purs » et les linguistes « purs » soient d’apparition récente, les cours de littérature pour les linguistes ne seraient pas à présent moins utiles que jadis les cours de linguistique pour les littéraires.</span> <br><span style="font-family: Georgia;">En laissant la parole aux œuvres, en limitant au nécessaire le recours à l’histoire littéraire, nous entendons témoigner de leur vigueur intacte. Si la méthode choisie tire implicitement profit de la linguistique, de la philologie et de l’herméneutique, ces disciplines demeurent ici de simples auxiliaires de la lecture.</span><br><span style="font-family: Georgia;">De mille manières, la littérature réinvente et remplit sa fonction critique : en créant des mondes, elle trouble celui que nous croyons le nôtre. Elle n’est pas faite de fictions irresponsables, ornées par des styles justifiant une poétique des procédés : les projets esthétiques restent inséparables des projets éthiques qui visent à révéler, transformer voire subvertir l’ordre existant.
