Résumé de la thèse : La relation entre le langage, d’une
part, l’interaction et la socialité, d'autre part, suscite
un intérêt renouvelé à travers un éventail d’hypothèses
d’ordre phylogénétique, ontogénétique et comparatif qui
fondent le modèle de l’« infrastructure sociocognitive ».
Les tenants de cette approche, comme Tomasello et
Levinson, s’appuient sur des études empiriques sur
l’attention conjointe, l’acquisition du langage et la
conversation, pour postuler l'existence d'une
infrastructure cognitive humaine universelle héritée
biologiquement qui serait à la base de l’interaction
sociale. Cette infrastructure comprendrait la lecture
précoce de l’esprit d’autrui et la motivation à
l’engagement social, et expliquerait l’apprentissage
culturel dont relèverait le développement des compétences
linguistiques. Les sciences du langage rejoignent ainsi de
plein droit le domaine interdisciplinaire des études sur
la « cognition sociale ». Les argumentations,
essentiellement mentalistes, avancent des hypothèses
problématiques (la lecture des intentions comme précurseur
du langage) tout en se basant également – les tenant pour
acquis – sur des conceptions de l’esprit et du langage qui
devraient à leur tour être expliquées, ainsi que sur des
modèles fonctionnalistes inadéquats. Ma thèse consiste à
montrer qu’il est au contraire nécessaire de se tourner
vers une explication constitutive du langage et de
l’interaction humaine, ce qui n’est possible qu’en
abandonnant les perspectives cognitivistes et
néo-darwinistes. À cette fin, une véritable remise en
cause épistémologique s’impose, en particulier dans le
sillage de la pensée de Maturana. Cette approche permet de
considérer le domaine de l’opération de l’individu comme
le domaine adéquat pour expliquer l’interaction humaine à
travers le dispositif analytique de la « coordination »,
et, par l’abstraction de l’invariance de sa dynamique, d’y
identifier les conditions de possibilité du langage (et de
la culture) : son organisation fondamentale, à savoir la
coordination consensuelle récursive (languaging), et sa
caractérisation en termes de phénotype ontogénétique,
notion qui permet d’en comprendre l'établissement
phylogénétique et développemental. Comprendre la nature du
langage implique alors de révéler la matrice
opérationnelle-relationnelle dans laquelle nous existons
en tant qu’êtres humains en interaction. <br>

"In search of the language’s matrix: from the mentalistic
approaches to social interaction to languaging"<br>
Abstract : The strong relation between language,
interaction and sociality is currently being studied
through a set of phylogenetic, ontogenetic and comparative
hypothesis forming the “sociocognitive infrastructure”
model. Empirical studies concerning joint attention,
language acquisition and conversation lead scholars as
Tomasello and Levinson to postulate a human universal
cognitive infrastructure driving social interaction that
is biologically inherited. This infrastructure includes
precocious mindreading and social engagement motivation
and should explain cultural learning and linguistic skills
development. In this way language sciences join and
participate to the interdisciplinary domain of “social
cognition” studies.<br>
Although trying to preserve the full explicative
significance of culture against the prevailing biological
reductionism, their mentalistic argumentations imply not
only problematical correlations (i.e., mindreading as a
prelinguistic precursor); they also take for granted some
conceptions about mind and language that should themselves
be explained and use functionalist models that are
inadequate. In my dissertation I challenge this approach
by showing that, on the contrary, we should actually turn
ourselves towards a constitutive explanation of language
and human interaction. This is possible only by abandoning
cognitivist and neo-Darwinian standpoints. An
epistemological shift is therefore proposed, based on
Maturana’s “Biology of cognition” and “Biology of
language” in particular. This kind of approach allows us
to behold the individual’s operational domain – where
organism can be observed in its continuous interaction
with its medium – as the adequate domain for explaining
human interaction through the lens of “coordination” as an
analytical device. Through abstracting the invariance in
its dynamics, it becomes possible to detect language and
culture conditions of possibility, that is: its
fundamental organization in terms of recursive consensual
coordination (languaging) and its characterization as an
ontogenetic phenotype, a notion by which we can understand
its phylogenetic and developmental emergence.
Understanding the nature of language means to reveal the
operational-relational matrix in which we exist as human
beings in interaction.<br>
