<b>Résumé</b><br>
Le travail de recherche présenté ici traite des aspects
phonétiques et psycholinguistiques des différences
acoustiques inter-genres. Je présenterai tout d'abord une
analyse acoustique de mots produits par des locuteurs
anglophones du nord-est des Etats-Unis et des francophones
parisiens. Des différences inter-genres significatives ont
été observées dans les deux langues sur plusieurs
paramètres. D’importantes variations inter-langues ont
également été constatées. Les enregistrements analysés ont
été utilisés dans le cadre d’une expérience
d’identification du genre par la voix, menée conjointement
sur des auditeurs francophones et anglophones américains.
Il apparaît que les paramètres acoustiques n’ont pas
influencé de la même manière les auditeurs des deux
langues. Une dernière partie sera dédiée à une expérience
de détection de mots, dont les résultats suggèrent que les
voix de femmes et d'hommes sont traitées par l’auditeur à
vitesse équivalente. En conclusion, ces résultats
indiquent que les différences acoustiques inter-genres
tout comme le processus d’identification du genre par la
voix sont dépendants de la langue et donc construits
socialement.<br>

<b>Abstract</b><br>
This research deals with phonetic and psycholinguistic
aspects of cross-gender differences. I will first present
an acoustic analysis of words produced by Northeastern
American English and Parisian French speakers. Significant
cross-gender differences were obtained for several
parameters. Moreover, cross-language variations were
observed. The same recordings were used in a gender
identification from speech experiment, jointly conducted
on Parisian French and American English listeners. It was
found that American English and French listeners did not
use the same strategies. A last part will be dedicated to
a word spotting experiment. Results suggest that female
and male voices are processed equally fast. To conclude,
it appears that cross-gender acoustic differences and
listeners' strategies in gender identification from speech
are language dependent and therefore socially constructed.<br>
