<div>Alda Mari <br><br><strong>15 Mai 11h00-12h00. <br>Beyond a Kleinian analysis of aspect <br></strong>In this talk, I will consider the way Klein’s (1994) influential analysis has been extended in recent years to account for the modal properties of aspectual operators. Then, based on the perfective aspect in Hindi, I argue that Kleinian extensions which do not view aspectual operators as being partitive are inadequate. I consider some consequences of this conclusion and suggest that studying the interface between aspectual and adverbial meaning would allow us to address some of the most pressing issues. <br><br><strong>16 Mai 14h00-15h00.<br>From result state to discourse coherence<br></strong>This talk investigates the hypothesis that--despite their inherent differences--grammatical aspects make reference to an event e and its result state s; they differ in: (a) whether e or s is related to the temporal coordinates provides by tense and adverbs, and (b) how e and s are related to these coordinates. An important consequence of this hypothesis is that aspectual meaning plays a non-trivial role in how we interpret the surrounding discourse. In particular, with respect to the availability of the rhetorical relations, OCCASION and NARRATION, which Hobbs (1985, 1990) and Asher & Lascarides (1993, 2003) used to account for temporal anaphora in narrative discourse.</div>
