Le marquage différentiel de l’objet (MDO) est un phénomène désormais bien connu et de mieux en mieux documenté (Comrie 1979, Bossong 1985, 1998, Croft 1998, Lazard 1994, 2011, Dalrymple & Nikolaeva 2011, Iemmolo 2011). Les nombreuses recherches menées sur ce sujet depuis une vingtaine d’années ont permis de dégager les principaux paramètres pouvant l'influencer (Hopper & Thompson 1980, Laca 2002, 2006, Aissen 2003, Leonetti 2003, 2007, Næss 2004, von Heusinger & Kaiser 2005, de Hoop & de Swart 2007). Ces recherches ont également contribué à affiner la présentation du phénomène dans de nombreuses langues en synchronie, et pour certaines d'entre elles en diachronie.<br>
En revanche, le rôle du contact linguistique dans l’émergence, le développement ou encore l’attrition d'un système de MDO n’a pas été suffisamment étudié. Or, dans une situation de contact de langues dont au moins une présente le phénomène, on peut envisager au moins deux cas de figure : <br>
a) dans le premier, que l’on peut appeler symétrique, les deux langues en contact ont chacune un système de MDO dont le fonctionnement précis est conditionné par des paramètres différents. Il serait intéressant d’étudier l’évolution de chacun de ces deux systèmes et d’essayer de déterminer la part du contact dans cette dernière.<br>
b) dans le deuxième, que l’on peut appeler asymétrique, seule l’une des deux langues possède un système de MDO pré-existant, tandis que l’autre présente des exemples sporadiques de MDO qui indiquent une influence de la langue à MDO systématique. Il peut s'agir soit d'une copie (partielle) du système, soit d'une copie du marqueur (pattern-replication vs. matter-replication à la Matras & Sake 2007) : en effet, la langue sans MDO peut se contenter de reproduire (de façon partielle) le système de la langue à MDO, ou alors elle peut aussi emprunter le marqueur du MDO de la langue à MDO systématique. Enfin, la langue sans MDO peut aussi provoquer l’attrition de ce phénomène dans l’autre langue.<br>
Il n'est évidemment pas toujours facile de déterminer si nous sommes devant un cas de contact symétrique ou asymétrique, et l’on peut même s’interroger sur la pertinence du contact en tant que facteur (en tout cas unique ou principal) à l'origine de l’émergence d’un système de MDO. On peut en effet envisager des cas de contact où un tel système a vu le jour de façon indépendante dans les deux langues. Il semble en revanche plausible de considérer le contact comme décisif dans l'évolution ultérieure du système des deux langues.<br>

Appel à soumissions<br>
<br>
Nous invitons des contributions dans une perspective synchronique et/ou diachronique qui illustrent les cas de figure présentés ci-dessus (ou qui en proposent des nouveaux) et qui cherchent à déterminer le rôle du contact dans l'émergence, le développement et l'éventuelle attrition d'un système de MDO attesté dans des situations de contact de langues.<br>

Les propositions de communication, en anglais ou en français, ne doivent pas dépasser 2 pages (bibliographie et exemples compris). Elles doivent être anonymes et sont à envoyer en pièce jointe (au format PDF) aux deux organisateurs avant le 1er septembre 2014 : anton.antonov@inalco.fr et alexandru.mardale@inalco.fr <br>

Differential object marking (DOM) is now a well-known and well-described phenomenon (Comrie 1979, Bossong 1985, 1998, Croft 1998, Lazard 1994, 2011, Dalrymple & Nikolaeva 2011, Iemmolo 2011). Research over the past twenty years has allowed us to grasp the key parameters at work (Hopper & Thompson 1980, Laca 2002, 2006, Aissen 2003, Leonetti 2003, 2007, Næss 2004, von Heusinger & Kaiser 2005, de Hoop & de Swart 2007). This research has also contributed to a more fine-grained presentation of the phenomenon in a number of languages, in synchrony and, for some cases, in diachrony. <br>
On the other hand, the role of language contact in the emergence, development and attrition of a DOM system has been the object of less attention. Still, in a language contact setting where at least one of the two languages has DOM, there are at least two scenarios to be considered: <br>
a) in the first one, which we could call symmetrical, both languages have their own DOM conditioned by factors which may or may not differ. It would be interesting to study the parallel evolution of each of the two systems and try to determine the role played by contact.<br>
b) in the second one, which we could call asymmetrical, only one of the two languages has a pre-existing DOM system, while the other one shows only sporadic examples of DOM which point to an influence from the language with fully-fledged DOM. We could be dealing either with a case of pattern-replication or with a case of matter-replication (in the sense of Matras & Sake 2007) : The (formerly) DOM-less language could either start replicating the fully-fledged DOM system by copying just the overall pattern or it could additionally borrow the DOM marker from the DOM language. And finally, the DOM-less language could also bring about the attrition and eventual demise of the system in the DOM language.<br>
It is of course not always easy to decide whether we are dealing with a symmetrical or an asymmetrical contact scenario, and one could even wonder to what extent contact can be construed as the only, or at least, the key factor in the emergence of a DOM system. We could indeed also imagine cases where two languages in contact acquired their DOM system independently from each other. Still, further contact between them arguably plays a decisive role in the development and demise of their respective DOM systems.<br>

Call for papers<br>
We invite papers dealing with any aspect of DOM in contact settings, both from a synchronic and a diachronic perspective, exemplifying the scenarios presented above (or suggesting new ones) while trying to determine the precise role of contact in the emergence, development and demise of DOM.<br>

Anonymous abstracts not exceeding 2 pages (including references and examples) should be sent as PDF attachments to both organizers, anton.antonov@inalco.fr and alexandru.mardale@inalco.fr, by 1 September 2014. Please specify in your message the following : author name(s), presentation title, institutional affiliation.<br>
Presentations will be allotted 30 minute slots including 10 minutes for discussion.<br>
The publication of a selection of the papers as a book or a special issue of an international journal is foreseen.<br>
