La prise en compte du contexte s'exprime par la condition suivante : q</span>uand la <span>longueur métrique</span> d'un vers n'a qu'une seule occurrence, isolée dans le corps du poème, le calcul du mètre n'est pas opéré et la <span>longueur métrique</span> est conservée.</font></span></span></span></span></p>

Le profil est une caractérisation métrique qui s'applique à l'ensemble du poème et qui permet, dans un second temps, de décrire le mètre de chaque vers. Cette caractérisation repose sur la distribution de propriétés linguistiques (méthode métricométrique) dans l'ensemble du poème, qui rendent compte de l'organisation interne du vers composé. <span style="font-size:10px;"><span style="font-family: times new roman,times,serif;"><span style="font-family: times new roman,times,serif;"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Dans cet exposé, nous nous proposons d’explorer l’entreprise de composition de vers mesurés à l’antique par Jean-Antoine de Baïf dans ses </span></span><i><span style="font-weight: normal;">Etrenes</span></i><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"> (1574). Deux perspectives seront adoptées successivement, de façon à proposer une appréhension aussi diversifiée que possible de ces expériences. D’une part, nous souhaitons d’abord la confronter à d’autres expériences modernes du même type. Ainsi, nous comparerons les caractéristiques de l’hexamètre de Baïf traduisant les </span></span><i><span style="font-weight: normal;">Besognes et Jours </span></i></span></span>d’Hésiode et l’hexamètre « moderne » de Philippe Brunet, traduisant l’<em>Iliade</em> d’Homère (éd. Seuil, 2010) dans le cadre du projet Démodocos. Notre objectif sera d’analyser ce qui les distingue, ce qui nous amènera également à distinguer leur conception de la traduction poétique. D’autre part, inversant notre mouvement sur l’axe du temps, nous explorerons le rapport des <em>Etrenes </em>au passé, en étudiant les sources antiques de la métrique de Baïf : fut-il réellement influencé par l’<em>Enchiridion </em>du grammairien Héphestion, composé au II<sup>e</sup> siècle de notre ère, comme le soutient la critique ? Si oui, dans quelle « mesure » exactement ? Nous tenteron
s de répondre à cette question en étudiant les trimètres iambiques et les hendécasyllabes phaléciens composés par Baïf en regard de l’analyse de ces mètres fournie par Héphestion dans son <em>vade mecum</em> (paru notamment dans une très belle édition chez Adrien Trurnèbe à Paris en 1553).</span></p>
