<span style="font-family:times new roman,times,serif;"><span style="font-size: 16px;">Trompés sans doute par la terminologie, les français croient souvent que leur patrimoine poétique a connu UN alexandrin et UN décasyllabe. Au mieux, certains prennent soin de distinguer le décasyllabe classique (césuré après sa quatrième position métrique) et le taratantara (césuré après la cinquième position).</span></span></p>
<p align="justify" class="western" style="margin-left: 0.5cm;margin-bottom: 0cm;font-style: normal;">
<span style="font-family:times new roman,times,serif;"><span style="font-size: 16px;">Nous verrons dans cet exposé que cette vision des choses est extrêmement réductrice, et même fausse.</span></span></p>
<p align="justify" class="western" style="margin-left: 0.5cm;margin-bottom: 0cm;font-style: normal;font-weight: normal;">
<span style="font-family:times new roman,times,serif;"><span style="font-size: 8px;"><font style="font-size: 12pt;">En effet, tout en laissant de côté les tentatives de mètres « mesurés » (= quantitatifs) du XVI<sup>e</sup> siècle, et sans entrer dans des hypothèse sur une structuration podique des mètres français, il est facile de montrer qu’il y a, du XIV<sup>e</sup> au XVI<sup>e</sup> siècles, différents mètres à 4+6 ou 6+6 positions métriques obligatoires (on fera aussi de petites excursions du coté des XII-XIIIe siècles et du XVII<sup>e</sup> siècle). Ces différents mètres se rencontrent parfois à une même époque, voire chez un même auteur. Ils ne peuvent pourtant être mélangés dans un même poème, ce qui conforte leur différenciation théorique.</font></span></span></p>
<p align="justify" class="western" style="margin-left: 0.5cm;margin-bottom: 0cm;font-style: normal;font-weight: normal;">
<span style="font-family:times new roman,times,serif;"><span style="font-size: 8px;"><font style="font-size: 12pt;">Cet exposé s’évertuera à donner des modèles formels de ces différents mètres à partir de quelques principes analytiques identiques, qui permettent aisément d’en dresser la typologie et d’en tracer l’histoire.</font></span></span></p>

<span style="font-family:times new roman,times,serif;"><span style="font-size: 8px;"><font style="font-size: 12pt;">Accessoirement, on greffera sur cette histoire l’évolution de phénomènes strophiques ou paraphonologiques tels que la disparition de l’enchaînement rétrograde, l’arrivée de l’alternance en genre,<font color="#000000"> la disparition de la diphtongue /</font><font color="#000000">j͡e</font><font color="#000000">/</font> et, à l’intérieur d’un même vers, l’évitement de l’hiatus et des séquence VəC# et Və#D (où V <font color="#000000">≠ </font><font color="#000000">ə</font><font color="#000000"> </font><font color="#000000">et D = mot disjonctif).</font></font></span></span></p>
