</SPAN><FONT SIZE="2"><SPAN style="font-size:12pt;">Pendant plusieurs décennies, les sociolinguistes ont ignoré la langue écrite, Labov ayant insisté que seul le vernaculaire sous sa forme la plus spontanée méritait notre attention. Plus récemment, des chercheurs comme Coulmas (2005), ont cherché à réhabiliter l’étude du langage écrit, faisant remarquer que l’attention portée aux choix linguistiques, plus évidente à l’écrit, est aussi révélatrice des comportements, des compétences et des représentations. De plus, aujourd’hui, la multiplication des communications médiatisées par l’internet donne naissance à une multitude de genres hybrides qu’on ne peut pas classer nettement par rapport aux genres écrits ou oraux traditionnels.<BR>
<BR>
De même que les sociolinguistes ont ignoré le langage écrit, la littérature plurilingue a longtemps occupé une place marginale dans les études littéraires, situation qui ignore l’abondance de textes multilingues datant de l’antiquité, du moyen âge et d’autres époques (Forster 1970/2009; Kleinhentz & Busby 2010). Mis à part leur intérêt intrinsèque, ces textes constituent aussi la seule source de données sur le multilinguisme avant l’époque des enregistrements sonores.<BR>
<BR>
Plus récemment, l’intérêt porté aux écrits plurilingues se manifeste aussi bien dans des publications (Sebba et al. 2012; Gardner-Chloros & Weston, sous presse) que dans des conférences au niveau national et international, comme celle organisée à l’INALCO,<I> Écrire entre les langues/Écrire en langues</I> en novembre 2013. La littérature plurilingue elle-même jouit d’un nouvel essor, grâce aux multiples communautés post-coloniales et issues de l’immigration, dont l’identité hybride est de plus en plus exprimée ouvertement et avec fierté. Qui dit écriture plurilingue ne dit pas nécessairement code-switching, et nous ferons la distinction entre les différentes possibilités ouvertes aux écrivains polyglottes. <BR>
A noter que dans certains contextes, comme celui des hispanophones aux Etats Unis ou de la littérature franco-canadienne, le code-switching est devenu un genre littéraire en lui-même.<BR>
<BR>
Dans cette communication, l’intérêt d’étudier les textes plurilingues d’un point de vue sociolinguistique, notamment ceux qui comportent du code-switching, sera illustrée à partir de plusieurs exemples. Deuxièmement, la discussion portera sur les différences et les ressemblances entre les fonctions du code-switching à l’oral et à l’écrit. J’argumenterai que ses fonctions sont essentiellement semblables dans les deux modalités, et s’étendent aussi à d’autres systèmes sémiotiques, par exemple le langage des signes et la culture visuelle.<BR>
