Le théâtre, longtemps instrumentalisé pour son potentiel éducatif, est avant tout une forme esthétique qui remplit une fonction sociale cathartique allant bien au-delà des objectifs didactiques qui lui sont attribués lorsqu’il s’invite dans une salle de classe. Bien qu’il utilise les mêmes mécanismes langagiers que ceux de la conversation ordinaire, le théâtre ne reproduit pas le réel mais il le sublime et l’essentialise dans une dialectique esthétique qui constitue un chemin à part entière de l’acte d’apprendre. Les récentes avancées des neurosciences de l’empathie et de la psychologie transculturelle notamment, nous invitent à replacer l’enseignement des langues encore trop souvent focalisé sur des fonctions cognitives/mentales et communicatives/fonctionnelles dans le paradigme plus large de l’énaction de Franscico Varela, qui postule la dimension auto-poïétique et incorporée (embodied) de toute forme de connaissance. Nous montrerons, au travers d’exemples tirés d’une étude longitudinale en collège, comment nous expérimentons une telle approche dans un dispositif d’enseignement intégré des langues (langues de l’école et des familles) prenant appui sur des pratiques théâtrales.<br>

Joëlle Aden est professeur des universités en sciences du langage à l’université du Maine dans le département Didactique des langues et du plurilinguisme. Elle est membre du groupe InEdUM (Innovation en éducation de l’université du Maine) au sein du CREN EA 2661 (Centre de Recherche en éducation de Nantes) dont elle co-dirige l’axe 2 (Ecole, langue/s, plurilinguisme/s). Ses recherches s’intéressent à l’impact des mécanismes d’empathie sur les interactions langagières et le rôle du corps et des émotions dans la pédagogie des langues. Elle analyse des projets de théâtre en langues du point de vue de l’énaction (Varela) et propose de considérer l’empathie comme une capacité transculturelle dans une pédagogie du translangager.<br>
