Marantz 670 vs 660

Further to David's post: Even though the specs say that the Marantz 670 is
a 16-bit recorder (like the 660), my guess is that it's probably worth
going for the 670 rather than the 660 as long as you have $ left over for a
good microphone, both for the problems discussed in the links that Linda
provided, and just looking at the specs -- the 670 has better frequency
response (20kHz vs 16kHz) and better signal-to-noise on the mic (65dB vs
60dB).

The Marantz 671 is reportedly going to be out in Australia about June 20,
2005. Expected retail price $2495 AUD, and the signal-to-noise ratio on the
mic is the same as the 670 - basically looks like its major selling point
is 96kHz sampling rate and 24 bit, though Marantz does say they've improved
the mic preamps. For that sort of money (if it turns out that price), it
might be worth looking at the Fostex FR-2 ($2150 AUD and available).

Anyone tried it?
