Dear list members,
I have no idea if the following is of any use to us who work on
smaller threatened languages. If anyone does know, it could be useful
to hear of what use if any, this software might have for some of us.

PRESS RELEASE: TshwaneLex Electronic Dictionary Software Released

January 23, 2007: TshwaneDJe HLT announces the release of software
for publishing your dictionary as a CD-ROM or downloadable product

The TshwaneLex Electronic Dictionary software module is a complete,
customisable solution for publishing your dictionary electronically
-- as a CD-ROM, or for sale or download on the Internet, or both.
The 'base package' provides all the functionality of a modern, user-
friendly Electronic Dictionary, but can be fully customised for the
desired 'look and feel', branding (e.g. logo), dictionary content
and language(s) of your product. This provides a highly cost-
effective solution for creating a professional Electronic Dictionary
product, obviating the need for the kind of expensive custom-
developed solutions that have traditionally been required in the
past.

The main features include:

- FULLY CUSTOMISABLE 'BRANDING': your own logo, icons, product name
and so on

- FULL LOCALISATION ABILITY: make the interface available in any
language(s)

- DYNAMIC METALANGUAGE CUSTOMISATION: present meta-dictionary-
contents in the language(s) of the user

- MULTIMEDIA: add any sound, images or video anywhere

- MICROSOFT WORD INTEGRATION: automatic lookups in the dictionary,
as one types in text; indispensable for translators who wish to
translate 'on the fly'

- SEARCHING: extremely fast, and customisable via a built-in
scripting language

- FOCUS ON SPEED, AND SUPPORT FOR LARGE DICTIONARIES: thanks to
smart indexes and memory-mapped I/O

- VARIOUS VIEWS: 'Translation Equivalent Fanouts' (automatically
display entries that are related to the current one), 'Linked View'
(automatically link related words across the two sides of a
bilingual dictionary), 'Expanded View' (move between side-by-side
view and an expansion of either side of a bilingual dictionary)

- AUTOMATIC / DOWNLOADABLE UPDATES: facilities to automatically
update the dictionary software and/or the dictionary contents over
the Internet

- SECURITY: your dictionary data is protected by default with
encryption

- FURTHER CUSTOMISATIONS: adapt the styles and colours throughout,
and add popup help files where desired

- 'TASKBAR / SYSTEM TRAY ICON' (Windows): for convenient access to
the Electronic Dictionary

More details about the TshwaneLex Electronic Dictionary system can

TshwaneDJe HLT also offers custom development, data conversion and
importing, support, training and consulting services for every
aspect of the dictionary compilation process, both technical and
lexicographic.
