Subject: Bug-fix release of ELAN 3.9.1
To: ELAN Discussion Group <elan at mpi.nl>

Dear all,

We are pleased to announce a new release of ELAN, version 4.0.0.

In this version a first, preliminary implementation of interaction
with the web-based lexicon tool LEXUS
(http://www.lat-mpi.eu/tools/lexus/) has been added. The level of
interaction will be extended in future versions.
There is now support for externally defined controlled vocabularies,
entries in a CV can be sorted alphabetically and a dynamic list of
suggestions-while-typing can be activated.
Some new and improved options are there for editing all or many
annotations on multiple tiers in one action: deleting all annotations
or annotation-values on a selection of tiers, create annotations on
dependent tiers for all annotations on the parent tier etc.
A few new export formats have been introduced and new customization
option for existing exports (e.g. SMIL and QuickTime Text).
The video(s) can now be placed in the centre of the screen and viewers
that one doesn't need can now be removed from the window.
On Windows a new player implementation has been developed with the
intention to eliminate a number of codecs-related problems (especially
with mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 files). The player is referred to as JDS and it
might be necessary to select it first in the Platform/OS tab in the
edit preferences window.

Information on other new features, changes and bug fixes can be found
in the release notes at
http://www.lat-mpi.eu/tools/elan/release-notes.html.

On behalf of all colleagues who have contributed to this release I
wish everybody happy holidays and all the best in 2011!

Best regards,

Han Sloetjes
