Topic: Open access and its implications for linguistic research

Discussion led by Nick Thieberger, Linguistics Program, School of
Languages and Linguistics, University of Melbourne

Open Access is a model for making all kinds of academic research more
generally available than it currently is. What are the implications
for linguistic research?

A discussion of access to language documentation which will include:
- an outline of Open Access and what it means;
- Open Access and outputs of linguistic research (journals, books,
- how to prepare language material for longterm access;
 - online presentation of recorded performance and transcripts;
 - online presentation of manuscripts (including fieldnotes) with
annotation services;
 - production of books with print-on-demand services
