Dear RNLDers,

Two interesting reports concerning Australia's Indigenous languages are
available for download.

The Commonwealth Ombudsman has released a report on "Talking in Language:
Indigenous language interpreters and government communication". The media
release <http://www.ombudsman.gov.au/media-releases/show/176> states that
the wider use of Indigenous language interpreters would help to break down
communication barriers and build stronger relationships between many
Indigenous Australians, governments and service providers.

The report, which contains 7 recommendations, can be downloaded from
the Commonwealth
Ombudsman <http://www.ombudsman.gov.au/>'s site.

A second report "Review of Australian Government Investment in the
Indigenous Broadcasting and Media Sector 2010" can be downloaded from
the Office
for the Arts <http://www.arts.gov.au/indigenous/broadcasting/review> site.
This review addresses the role of broadcasting services in supporting the
maintenance of Indigenous languages. It raises concerns about content in
Indigenous languages, and highlights the need for stronger links between
government programs funding language projects and broadcasting.
