[RNLD] BLiP (Brisbane Linguistics in the Pub)

Dear all,

The next meeting of the Brisbane Linguistics in the Pub (BLiP) will take place on

Wednesday, 26 June 2013, at 7pm.

Venue is as usual at the Brisbane German Club, 416 Vulture St, Woolloongabba QLD 4102.

I have reserved "Der Keller" for us again. The booking is under "Andrea" (and/or "Linguistics", but the former is the safer bet). If you are not a member of the Brisbane German Club, a member needs to sign you in. A number of us have become social members of the club by now, so there should be enough people there who can sign you in for the night. Please just request permission at the reception to come in and find us first, and then one of us will go out with you again to sign you in.

The session will be moderated by Nathaniel Mitchell, and the topic is "Australians being Australian: a discussion on mockery, banter, taking the piss and jocular framing of talk". The relevant reading for the night (especially from Section 3 onwards) is: Michael Haugh & Derek Bousfield. 2012. Mock impoliteness, jocular mockery and jocular abuse in Australian and British English. Journal of Pragmatics 44 (9), 1099–1114. It's attached to this email.
