This is just to let the tech-savvy and anyone interested know that the code for the Ma! dictionary platform was made available on GutHub about a year ago: https://github.com/polleninteractive/ma

As intended from the outset the Ma! platform is Open Source, at least the dictionary code, complete with ‘crowd-sourcing’ functionality which allows users to record video, audio, text, and image data and sync it to an online database. Among other things, the code has the potential to be modified into a generic format for dictionary apps. It’s our intention to get the Ma! phrase book and Ma! conjugator interfaces on GitHub in the near future.

The Ma! platform is currently the only platform which allows a community of users to collaborate in creating and modifying a dictionary. For more info about the project, go to: http://themaproject.org/?p=28

One direction in which people have expressed interest in taking the platform, is to develop a user interface which allows users to import their own dictionary data into a generic app ‘template’. At this stage this aspect of the platform requires massaging of data by a specialist. We’re very much hoping some among you takes up this challenge as we focus on other areas of development.

Happy coding!

Bruce Birch.
