As part of our mandate to protect and share culture, ASAC operates the Groote Eylandt Language Centre. Our language center is a hub for developing cultural resources in language, translating important materials, protecting the Anindilyakwa language and sharing culture through language, stories, media and other art forms.

ASAC is looking for an experienced Linguist to join our Language team here on Groote Eylandt. The successful person will provide expert advice and guidance to the Language Centre team, including providing best practice methods for preserving and maintaining language, training internal staff on linguistics concepts and technology, and assisting with the development of resources and other project work.

We are looking for an experienced linguist who can engage with community and other stakeholders, and effectively provide specialist advice and manage a range of projects. The right person will have excellent cross cultural communication and interpersonal skills, the willingness to foster knowledge and understanding of Anindilyakwa language and culture, and experience working in a remote Aboriginal community. This is a great opportunity to work in a vibrant and complex linguistic and cultural environment.

Groote Eylandt offers a fantastic life style. There are 3 Indigenous communities in the archipelago - Angurugu, Umbakumba and Milyakburra. Alyangula is the largest community and is the mining town for South 32. Alyangula offers great lifestyle facilities such as, a gym, golf course, tennis and squash courts, swimming pool and oval, great fishing and camping, all well placed within tropical ambience.

An attractive salary package will be offered, including accommodation. This role has the opportunity to be flexible and project based for the right person.
