[RNLD] Learner's grammars

Hi Felicity,

Here’s another one:

2005 Jalai Jako’ Iban. A basic grammar of the Iban language of Sarawak, by
Otto Steinmaier. Kuching (Sarawak): Klasik Publishing House.

It is meant to be for non-linguists but it is also a bit “by a non-linguist”. Nevertheless, it is nice to see how Steinmaier tries to make his grammar more accessible by using ‘human’ language and taking the student by the hand. He also makes it interesting by giving much cultural information.

Cheers,

Sander Adelaar

Hi Felicity and all,

You might find this 2003 publication by Robbins Burling on the Garo language of Bangladesh/NE India useful. The author has attempted to serve the interests of native speakers, language learners and linguists alike by assigning each section to one of three graded levels of complexity. You can access it here:

Best regards,
Alec

Subject: [RNLD] Learner's grammars

Hi all,

I was wondering whether someone could point me to an example of a Learner’s Grammar, non-Australian, written with some pedagogical input and maybe also something with a bit of documentation around it and clear usage.

If that’s not too much to ask!

Felicity
