Hi

The Groote Eylandt Language Centre is looking for someone to work on
preparing language and cultural digital data and media for cataloguing and
archiving for our Ajamurnda project. We'd love to get a linguist or
linguistics student who is documenting languages! A lot of the proposed
work is digital management, but there is a lot of scope for applying
language and cultural knowledge to the tasks. Applicants should follow the

The Groote Eylandt Language Centre is looking for a Data Consultant to
complete designated project work for a period of approx. 3 months, working
an average of 30 hours per week. The successful candidate will be required
to fly to Groote Eylandt for an initial induction and then will be able to
complete the project work offsite at a location of their choice within
Australia. Regular contact with the Language Centre staff will be essential
over the 3 month period. It is anticipated the 3 month period will run from
Sept to Nov 2018.



*Duties*

·         Collaborate with the Language Centre in exchange and transmission
of large data sets.



·         Process a collection of digital media and text files, including
preparing technical and descriptive metadata, migrating media and file
formats, standardising filenames, producing viewing copies/thumbnails,
record keeping and reporting.



*Selection Criteria:*

1.Demonstrated skills and experience in digital data management with a high
level of attention to detail.



2.Knowledge of media and file formats and some knowledge of conversion
software.



3. High level skills in using Office Software, including spreadsheets.



4. Experience in library, archive, indexing, corpus management or other
cataloguing work.



5. Show a genuine interest in preserving Indigenous Languages
