The organisational objective for Juluwarlu Group Aboriginal Corporation is to professionally preserve, collect, record, catalogue, archive, re-produce, exhibit, communicate, publish and broadcast the culture, language and history of Australia’s Yindjibarndi peoples, in a way that positively promotes respect, understanding, reconciliation, self-esteem, and a sense of personal and community identity, for the benefit of all Australians. The Juluwarlu administration office is located in the Pilbara at Roebourne, in North-western Australia. Yindjibarndi country covers approximately 20,000 square kilometres and is roughly bounded by Roebourne (north), Wittenoom (south), Tom Price (east), and Pannawonica (west), with the Indigenous spiritual and cultural heart centred on Millstream/Chichester National Park. The main duties for the Linguist will include: 1. To work with the Yindjibarndi Elders to on the next editions of Juluwarlu’s published books, Wangallili (Yindjibarndi flora), and Garrugan (Yindjibarndi fauna). 2. To work through 2006/2007 on the specific Yindjibarndi Significant Site Cultural Mapping Project. The aim of the Yindjibarndi Cultural Mapping Project is to record, film, document, conserve, protect, list, name, broadcast and disseminate information regarding 50 of the significant Yindjibarndi Aboriginal cultural sites that occur in Yindjibarndi traditional country. The significant sites include rivers, hills, permanent pools, Thalu (increase) sites, caves, rock art, law areas, burial and birthplaces. A book and DVD documentary DVD will be made as a product of this project. 3. To work with the Yindjibarndi Elders on their biographies 4. To provide translations and subtitles for Juluwarlu television and DVD productions 5. To assist with the production of quarterly Juluwarlu newsletters 6.
