A position is expected to become available at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. The position will be available from early/mid-March to the end of June 2010.<br><br>The position may be filled as full time by one person or part time by two or three people. <br>
<br>Successful applicant(s) will be assisting a Research Project Officer (Digital Language Resource) with the restructuring of ASEDA (Aboriginal Studies Electronic Data Archive) in the Research section <<a href="http://www1.aiatsis.gov.au/aseda/">http://www1.aiatsis.gov.au/aseda/</a>>. ASEDA holds computer-based (digital) material related to Australian Indigenous language studies. The successful applicant(s) may also be assisting the Project Officer with the maintenance of AUSTLANG, online Australian Indigenous Languages Database. <br>
<br>The details of position are: <br>Level: APS Level 4.1 <br>Salary: $50,926 (pro rata) <br><br>Duties: <br>1. to convert electronic files in ASEDA into appropriate formats for archiving and also for distribution. <br>2. to sort and transfer files in ASEDA to the AIATSIS digital asset management system for archiving and also to appropriate servers for distributions of files. (Training on the digital asset management system will be provided.) <br>
3. to scan and archive documentations on each item in ASEDA. <br>4. to update the ASEDA FileMaker database. <br>5. to write an item description of each item in ASEDA. <br>6. Other duties as required. <br><br>Selection criteria: <br>
1. High level of computer literacy and the ability to learn computer software packages quickly. The ability to use both Windows and Macintosh computers, and knowledge of FileMaker or other database software. <br>2. Attention to details, the ability to maintain concentration on manual work, and demonstrated motivation. <br>
3. Well developed written communication skills. <br>4. Ability to work in a small team and with limited supervision. <br>5. Knowledge of Australian Indigenous languages or linguistics will be advantage. <br>6. Experience in library cataloguing will be advantage. <br>
