Dear all,

It would be interesting to know who they are targeting/reaching. Presumably, there is an audience who can afford to pay the $1000-$4000 for such a conference. Government? Mining? Corporate sector? The who and why are interesting questions. We can assume they want to learn about these issues and the organisers have put together a strong selection of presenters.

If any of our members are amongst the presenters (e.g. KLRC, Qld Indigenous knowledge centre, NT libraries), could you give us some feedback?

cheers,
Margaret

On Wed, Aug 11, 2010 at 1:41 PM, Paul Paton - VACL <ppaton@vaclang.org.au> wrote:
Totally disconnected from communities it seems..
Dear David and RNLD mob

I agree that this looks like a business model and quite frankly I'm appalled at the rates. It is the second such offer we received in a month and it seems organizers and business people have understood there is serious money in anything branded Indigenous knowledge transfer or cross-cultural training.
Mirima Language Centre offers a similar course (as a more locally specialized "product") for a fraction of the fee. In fact, I wonder who'd be able to afford an expense of this size.
