Tiwi Strong Women's group have been pro-active in their community in using language and, in particular, song language, to engage Tiwi children with their culture and identity. They will explain how these women who are respected elders, leaders and mentors
in their community are using the language "re-discovered" in repatriated ethnographic song recordings in music projects (such as rap and hip hop) aimed at Tiwi children. Genevieve Campbell (co-presenter) has documented this process and is working with the
women (and senior gentlemen singers and elders) to preserve the language of songs recorded over the past 100 years. They will show how these recordings are being used both to create a written resource preserving an endangered language and as source material
for sampling in to modern "dance music" created by the Tiwi kids themselves.<br>

American Indigenous Plains Cultures have experienced a plethora of challenges that over the course of centuries, threatened to break down and destroy vital teachings rooted in heritage and language. Today their overall survival can be attributed to the foundation
embedded within ancient societal ceremonial practices, language retention, and active involvement in the holistic perpetuation and performance traditional songs and dances.This innovative and interactive workshop-performance is designed to showcase a healing
model of success to fellow healers, educators and conference participants through a formal presentation of a Spiritual, Mental, Emotional and Physical dance theatre experience. The rationale herein is to perform and then share first-hand testimonials from
presenters highlighting the contemporary rural and urban struggles faced by Blackfoot and Cree peoples today in Canada, and how cultural involvement through song and dance has served to heal, and change their lives.<br>
