Dear Professor Tao,

I’m delighted to share with you the news that the UCLA Library has just launched a new international initiative that I hope will be of great interest to cultural heritage organizations around the world.

Through
Documenting Global Voices, the UCLA Library will award grants to archives and cultural heritage organizations in
Africa, Central and Southeast Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America, and the Middle East. The grants will enable the organizations to preserve at-risk cultural heritage materials and make them publicly available online on a
UCLA-hosted website.

The first call for preliminary proposals opened on December 1, 2018, and the application deadline is January 1, 2019.

We’ve announced the initiative to major international news outlets, sent information to Los Angeles consulates for countries in these regions, and contacted colleagues to help us spread the word. However, we know that those messages may
not reach all of the organizations that would be interested in applying.

Do you have your own mechanisms to reach these organizations, or can you suggest other influential communications vehicles, such as listservs, social media platforms, blogs, newsletters, and mailing lists? Are there specific organizations
you’d suggest we contact, and can you give us the names of key staff members?

I welcome any suggestions and guidance you may have. Please reply to this message or email the initiative’s mailbox directly at
dgv@library.ucla.edu.

Thank you very much for your consideration and assistance.

Sincerely,
