Now we find ourselves in a strange new world of online work, and likely no travel, or greatly reduced travel, for the the foreseeable future. This month we look at ways we can continue our research collaborations with communities. What kinds of research projects are possible in this radically altered landscape? And how can we still support the languages and communities that we work with?<br><br>This LIP has a different format to usual. We will start with a panel discussion (around 45 minutes) and then we will discuss the issues raised in small groups for about 30 minutes. The panel discussion will be streamed live to YouTube and will be available to view later.<br><br>The panel brings together six linguists who have already been doing 'fieldwork at a distance' for some time: Claire Bowern, Emiliana Cruz, Tom Ennever, Bryn Hauk, Stephen Morey, Anthony Woodbury. The discussion will be facilitated by Ruth Singer.<br><br>This LIP is at a new time, so we can include linguists based in the Americas as well as Australia.<br><br>To participate via Zoom, register with EventBrite to receive the Zoom meeting link:

As the name suggests, it usually happens in a pub or bar, and the beer and food help make for a stimulating atmosphere.</div>The current LIP organising committee LIP is: Ruth Singer (Melbourne Uni), Lauren Gawne (LaTrobe Uni), Jill Vaughan (Melbourne Uni), Chloé Diskin-Holdaway (Melbourne Uni), Jonathon Lum (Melbourne Uni) and Andrew Tanner (Living Languages)</div><div><br></div><div>-- <br><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><span style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif">Dr Ruth Singer</span><br></div><div><font face="verdana, sans-serif">School of Languages and Linguistics, University of Melbourne</font></div><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><font face="verdana, sans-serif">Research Unit for Indigenous Language (RUIL): <a href="http://indiglang.arts.unimelb.edu.au/" target="_blank">http://indiglang.arts.unimelb.edu.au/</a></font></div><div><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:verdana,sans-serif">ARC Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language (CoEDL)</span><font face="verdana, sans-serif">: <a href="http://www.dynamicsoflanguage.edu.au" target="_blank">http://www.dynamicsoflanguage.edu.au/</a> </font></div><div><font face="verdana, sans-serif"><br></font></div></div><a href="https://unimelb.academia.edu/RuthSinger" target="_blank"><font face="verdana, sans-serif">https://unimelb.academia.edu/RuthSinger</font></a></div><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><font face="verdana, sans-serif"><a href="http://www.findanexpert.unimelb.edu.au/display/person2621" target="_blank">http://www.findanexpert.unimelb.edu.au/display/person2621</a></font></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>
