<p><b>The Endangered Languages Archive is looking for a Digital
Archivist / Research Data Manager to join the team at the
Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.</b></p>
<p>The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (<a
href="http://bbaw.de">BBAW</a>) is a learned society based in
Berlin. Basic research in the humanities, the interdisciplinary
treatment of scientific and societal questions concerning the
future in order to advise politics and society, and the dialogue
between science and the public form the core areas of its work.</p>
<p>The BBAW is home to the Endangered Languages Documentation
Programme (<a href="http://eldp.net">ELDP</a>). ELDP, funded by <a
href="https://www.arcadiafund.org.uk/">Arcadia</a>, is dedicated
to documenting and preserving endangered languages by funding
documentation projects around the world, assisting grantees in
conducting field research and archiving their documentary
collections, and making those collections freely available through
the Endangered Languages Archive (<a href="http://elararchive.org">ELAR</a>).
</p>
<p>The Endangered Languages Archive is a digital repository for
preserving multimedia collections of endangered languages from all
over the world, making them available for future generations.</p>
<p>ELAR’s mission is to:</p>
<ul>
<li>provide a safe long-term repository for language documentation
collections</li>
<li>train and support depositors in collection creation and
preservation</li>
<li>make collections accessible free of charge to researchers,
communities, and the public</li>
<li>support users in discovering and accessing recordings</li>
</ul>
<p>ELAR holds over 500 multimedia collections of endangered
languages. We are seeking a dedicated Digital Archivist / Research
Data Manager to manage and grow the archive. The main focus of the
position is to provide is to manage and develope the archive
further. Also the job holder is to provide advice and support on
topics related to research data management of language data for
language communities, linguists, and documenters. In this context,
the preparation and implementation of information and training
events is expected in particular, as well as the support of
depositors in data preparation and archiving. Furthermore, the use
of the archive in research and teaching is to be developed,
promoted and expanded globally. Cooperations with museums are also
to be pursued utilising the collections.</p>
<p>ELAR is looking for the following person to start as soon as
possible:</p>
<p><strong>Digital Archivist / Research Data Manager (m/f/d) for the
Endangered Languages Archive, full time for an initial fixed
term of two years.</strong></p>
<h3>Your tasks:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Coordination and innovative development of the Endangered
Languages Archive (ELAR) and the research data at ELAR</li>
<li>Representing ELAR on topics related to research data
management of language data and networking with all relevant
partners, as well as representing ELAR in working groups and
consortia, e.g. <a href="https://www.delaman.org/">DELAMAN</a>,
in the BMBF project <a
href="https://www.leibniz-zas.de/en/research/research-areas/syntax-lexicon/quest">QUEST</a>
and in <a href="https://www.nfdi.de/">NFDI</a> consortia (e.g.
Text+, <a href="https://nfdi4culture.de/de/index.html">NFDI4Culture</a>,
NFDI4Memory)</li>
<li>Organisation and coordination of the collaboration with the
digital initiatives of the <a href="http://bbaw.de">BBAW</a></li>
<li>Data preparation and ingestion using ELAR’s repository
software</li>
<li>Supporting depositors in archiving language data and creation
of all kinds of information materials </li>
<li>Maintenance of the web presence for ELAR’s research data</li>
<li>Planning and implementing information and training events on
research data management of language data and Open Science</li>
<li>Publications on relevant topics and preparation of third-party
funding applications</li>
</ul>
<h3>Your profile:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Degree in information sciences or comparable degree with
relevance to the field of activity, doctorate desirable</li>
<li>In-depth experience with research data and research data
management, FAIR & CARE principles and common metadata
standards and ontologies </li>
<li>Experience with appropriate IT and software infrastructures
and packages, and with modern archiving and library software </li>
<li>Good IT knowledge in the areas of networks, servers, storage
and basic services </li>
<li>Very good practical experience in planning and conducting
training and information events </li>
<li>High willingness to always acquire up-to-date knowledge and a
comprehensive overview in the IT sector </li>
<li>Very good written and spoken German and English skills;
another foreign language highly desirable </li>
<li>Willingness to participate in international workshops and to
work in national and international working groups </li>
<li>Distinct ability to work conceptually and analytically and to
solve complex problems</li>
<li>Independent and systematic way of working, planning competence
and goal orientation </li>
<li>High degree of commitment and initiative, flexibility and
ability to work under pressure </li>
<li>Very good communication and teamwork skills, combined with a
strong sense of responsibility for the entire work area</li>
</ul>
