Dear all,

As there are some researches relating RST and GDF, I am using this list to
publicize the CFP for the FDG2018, the *Fifth International Conference on
Functional Discourse Grammar*, which will be held in Salvador, Brazil, from
26-28 July 2018.

This conference will be preceded by an International Preconference Course
on FDG on 24 and 25 July 2018, which will itself be preceded by a
Portuguese-taught *Introdução preliminar à Gramática Discursivo-Funcional *
on 23 July 2018.

*Objectives*

The aim of FDG2018 is to further elaborate the model of Functional
Discourse Grammar (FDG) as proposed by Kees Hengeveld and J. Lachlan
Mackenzie. Full treatments of FDG may be found in: Hengeveld, Kees and
Mackenzie, J. Lachlan. 2008. *Functional Discourse Grammar: A
typologically-based theory of language structure

University Press; and in: Keizer, Evelien. 2016. *A Functional Discourse
Grammar for English
<https://global.oup.com/academic/product/a-functional-discourse-grammar-for-english-9780199571864?cc=nl&lang=en&>*.
Oxford: Oxford University Press.

*The conference*

All sessions at the conference will be plenary, so as to enhance discussion
between participants. A poster session will be part of the programme. The
language of the conference will be English.

*The venue*

FDG2018 will take place in the *Instituto de Letras* of the *Universidade
Federal de Bahia*, Av. Barão de Jeremoabo, 147, Campus Universitário de
Ondina, 40170-115 Salvador - BA, Brazil.

*Abstracts*

Abstracts should contain at least the following items: a clearly defined
and well-motivated research question; the crucial examples illustrating the
relevance of the research question; and the main conclusions of the paper.
Abstracts should be approximately 1,000 words long, i.e. roughly 3 pages,
and should not contain the name of the author. References to literature
cited should be provided in addition to the 1,000 words. References
containing the name of the author may also be given but will be suppressed
before the abstract is sent to the programme committee. Please indicate in
the accompanying message whether you want to present a paper or a poster.
The deadline for the submission of abstracts of papers and posters is
February 1, 2018. Abstracts should be submitted electronically to the
International Secretary of the FGF at fg-fgw at uva.nl.

*Organizing Committee*

The members of the Organizing Committee are: Silvana Soares Costa Ribeiro
(Universidade Federal de Bahia), Maria Cristina Vieira de Figueiredo Silva

Programme Committee that consists of the following members: Evelien Keizer
(Chair, University of Vienna), J. Lachlan Mackenzie (VU Amsterdam), and
Hella Olbertz (Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana). The Programme
Committee will evaluate anonymized abstracts and decide on their inclusion
in the conference programme. Abstracts submitted by members of the
Programme Committee themselves will be evaluated by an independent member
of the board of the FGF.

*Preconference course*

The preconference course on FDG prepares the students for participation in
the conference and is aimed at graduates and postgraduates and will be
taught by Kees Hengeveld (University of Amsterdam), Evelien Keizer
(University of Vienna), and J. Lachlan Mackenzie (VU University of
Amsterdam). The course will be taught in English.

*Introdução preliminar à Gramática Discursivo-Funcional*
