The National Foreign Language Resource Center (NFLRC) at the University of
Hawai‘i at Mānoa is pleased to announce ...

*Selecting and Adapting Materials for Online Language Learning and Teaching*

*Description*

Designed for in-service online language teachers, this course, offered in
Fall 2019, focuses on selecting and adapting materials for online language
learning and teaching. Successful completion of this course will earn a
digital badge conferred by the National Foreign Language Resource Center
(University of Hawai‘i). Badge earners will be eligible to earn a
Continuing Education Unit (CEU) towards maintaining their professional
qualifications.

*LAST DAY TO REGISTER for access to the live webinar series is OCTOBER 6,
2019.* Please note that a screencast of these webinar sessions will be
recorded and made available as an open educational resource in TED-Ed.

Webinar DatesOct 8 | Oct 15 | Oct 22 | Oct 29 | Nov 5*Tuesdays, 10:00
am-noon (Hawaii Standard Time), 1:00-3:00 pm (Pacific Daylight Time),
2:00-4:00 pm (Mountain Daylight Time), 3:00-5:00 pm (Central Daylight
Time), 4:00-6:00 pm (Eastern Daylight Time)* The last session (November 5)
will take place after Daylight Savings Time ends (November 3). We will keep
all mainland times the same as listed above and just shift Hawaii time to
11:00 am-1:00 pm.

Session 1: Working with Open Educational Resources (OERs)

Session 2: Adapting and scaffolding online materials for different
proficiency levels

OCTOBER 15

Session 3: Selecting and adapting online materials for the interpretive
mode of communication

Session 4: Selecting and adapting online materials for the interpersonal
mode of communication

OCTOBER 22

Session 5: Selecting and adapting online materials for the presentational
mode of communication

Session 6: Selecting and adapting online materials for the teaching of
culture

OCTOBER 29

Session 7: Helping learners select and adapt online materials to enable
self-directed learning

Session 8: Copyrights and Creative Commons licensing

NOVEMBER 5 *

Session 9 (longer, 75 min.): Best practices in selecting and adapting
materials for online language learning and teaching (panel)

Session 10 (shorter, 30 min.): Summary review by the series facilitator as
discussant

Products

Successful completion of this course will earn a digital badge conferred by
the National Foreign Language Resource Center (University of Hawai‘i).
Badge earners from will be eligible to earn a Continuing Education Unit
(CEU) towards maintaining their professional qualifications. To earn the
badge, registrants must meet the badge criteria.
