The "fingering" of different nationalities by different nationalities in
expressions of this kind is common, and surely to be expected. In the case
of French and English, mutual pairs abound. Examples: "French letter"
and "capote anglaise" are the same thing, as are "take French leave" and
"filer a l'anglaise." Are there instances of such charming reciprocity to
be found among Slavic languages?
