connections

In the discussion on accessing the AATSEEL program the issue of connecting to
the Web has come up; several people have mentioned Compuserve as an alternative
for those whose university computing centers don't offer PPP or a text based
program such as Lynx. Rather than using one of the big commercial services
(Compuserve, AOL, Prodigy, Microsoft Network) I would suggest finding a local
service provider who offers SLIP/PPP on a fixed fee basis (should not exceed
$30/month), does no impose any time limits (no clock ticking in the background
as you surf the increasingly commercialized Web universe), and provides the
Telco connection through a local phone call.
