Over the years I recall being told repeatedly that Russian obscenities were Tatar by origin (in particular the words starting with x-). Is there any evidence this is in fact at all true? Do others of you have similar anecdotes? What is the origin of the "myth" of Tatar origin? Can anyone recommend any source materials on this? Frank Sciacca
