Re Prof. Dyer's posting on not letting native Russians into elementary
classes: I agree with you completely. Actually I've been speaking here
about second-year and above. The thing is, we are a state university,
and we get students saying they have a right to take these courses,
that they are forgetting their Russian (if they are from, say, Moldavia),
that they make mistakes when they write letters. And sometimes it is
possible to find creative ways of using them in class. Emily Tall
