One suggestion:  Put respect and passion and energy and expertise into your
first and second year Russian programs, both the people who teach them and
the people who take them.  Also, communicate to your students in everything
you do that the language is more than just the sum of its grammatical and
lexical parts and is more than just a conduit for information:  it is used
to argue, to insult, to love and is spoken by millions of fascinating
people, bearers of a deep and interesting culture.
