August 6, 1517 the first Belarusian (and East Slavic in general) book was
printed in Prague.  It was the Bible translated into Old Belarusian and
published by Belarusian enlightener Francishak Skarina, who got his
education in Italy.  For the period of three years he published 23 Bibles
in his own translation and with his own pictures.
