MULTICULTURALISM IN EUROPE:
CITIZENSHIP POLICY AND SOCIAL AGENDAS

The break-up of the Soviet Union has challenged the new national states to
develop minority policies while Western European societies are facing the
contradictory pressures of curtailing access and of granting citizenship rights
to former labour migrants and other newcomers.

Multiculturalism in Europe reviews policy responses to these developments
in Britain, France, Germany and countries of the former Soviet Union,
evaluates patterns of exclusion and the scope of participation for ethnic
minorities in different social environments and explores the prospects for
multiculturalism in today's Europe.
