Dear Seelangers:

Is anyone aware of whether the Poles, most probably in the area of
Silesia, also have legends of the character known as Rubezahl among the
Germans, Rybrcoul among the Czechs, and Ribrcol among the Slovaks? A
19th century Slovak reviewer of J.K. Musaus' Volksmarchen der Deutschen,
which included "Legenden von Rubezahl," insisted that the character was
stolen from the Slovaks, or at least from the Slavs. I am curious about
the probable distribution of these tales.

Thanks in advance for any information.

David Cooper
