---------- Forwarded message ----------
This message is addressed to any teachers in secondary schools or in
universities using the text Nachalo.
I am a high school teacher using Nachalo with individualized materials
from Ohio State University. My students, even the excellent students,
say that I am assigning too much and it is unreasonable to expect such a
fast pace from them. I have made three lessons in Nachalo equal to one
semester's credit, thus six lessons in one year of high school Russian.
It is in the second year especially (Book 1 Lessons 7 & 8 and Book 2
Lessons 1-4) that students believe the amount of work done is greater
than in first year and is too much.
I am aware that one year of high school foreign language is supposed to
equal one semester of college foreign language. So, my question to you
others who are using this text is: How much do you cover in one high
school year or one college semester? What do you and your students
believe is a reasonable pace? In order to cover the material, do you skip
activities or sections, and if so, what?
        Thank you for your advice.
