Rather than voting in this debate, I'd just like to add that if you are
interested in sending Cyrillic-language email which is cross-platform readable,
one of the best solutions (for both Mac and PC) is to use the free email
program Netscape Messenger (which comes with Netscape Communicator). Although
 this isn't an option for people using unix-based mail, it's a user-friendly
option for those who prefer not to work from the command line. There are
instructions for how to set up the configuration at
http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~mittenth/fl/nrl_email.html [note: please link to
http://www.courses.fas.harvard.edu/fl/ ; this information is housed in my
account only temporarily, and will be moving soon]

Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions about this method.

Best regards,
Laurel Mittenthal
