Jules F Levin and Peter Haikalis produced a brilliant
book called "Reading Modern Russian" also published
by Slavica, in 1979. To my mind it is unsurpassed in
applying a "scientific" approach to reading Russian and
it is very well suited to teaching the utilitarian non-humanities
type brain the quickest way into reading Russian. I used it
with a group of mathematicians and it seemed to be
appreciated.

I believe Slavica published such a book by Patricia Arant a while ago. You
might try it. She taught with it at Brown for quite a while, I believe. Emily
