Etymological query

Dear Kate and others,

I am sure there are better explanations (Vasmer), but since I have this dictionary
nearby, here it is, in English transliteration:

Chudak -- Obshchesl. Obrazovano s pomoshch'iu suf. -ak'' ot chuditi -- "udivliat'",
proizvodnogo s suf. -iti (>it') ot chudo.

Chudo -- Obshcheslav.  Obrazovano s pomoshch'iu suf. -do ot chuti -- "slyshat',
oshchushchat'" (sm. chu).  Obshcheslav. chudo voskhodit k *keudo, na inoi stupeni
cheredovaniia vystupaiushchemu v vide *koudo, sokhranivshegosia v kudesnik.
