Regarding Kenneth Brostrom's suggestion to involve cultural studies in
current discussion, it is already involved, since the attack  was designed
as the  American disaster: one American symbol  crashed another, just as
sinking of Kursk was the image of Russian Katastrofa (Russia as "leaking
vessel","keeping sinking economics afloat" and like metaphors).
